While
visiting Trujillo in mid October 1985, I first heard the
transmission of Radio El Porvenir on the measured frequency
of 3904 kHz. The station has given the identification as
"Desde el distrito de El Porvenir, Trujillo, la
ciudad de la eterna primavera, transmite Radio El Porvenir,
La Voz del Norte Peruano, en la frecuencia de los 3950kHz
banda de 90 metros onda corta." Although the frequency was
nominally announced as "3950 kHz", it has drifted between
3900 kHz and 3955 kHz.
Radio
El Porvenir was founded and operated by Manuel Domingo
Gil Gil. He is also the owner of Radio Huamachuco (founded
on August 13, 1975) which formerly broadcast with the same
shortwave transmitter. The station used "Jeloso" brand transmitter
(0.25kW) feeding into a 1/2 wavelength dipole antenna. While
the station was active on shortwave, it operated at 1000-0400.
After having been on the air for about one year, its studio
and transmitting equipment were dismantled by the MTT, because
of the illegal broadcasting operation.
Currently
OCZ2Q Radio El Porvenir broadcasts on the authorized
frequency of 99.9MHz with an output of 0.5kW.
