Re: [Swprograms] BBC World Service coverage of the Wimbledon tennistournament

Richard:

Thanks for your note. It was good to receive it.

I have to confess that my shortwave listening has dropped to a 30 year low. With the BBC WS pretty much gone from NA and with their restructured and repetitive news schedule, the main reason I purchased a shortwave radio all those years ago has gone. I now listen to radio on the internet and although the audio quality is not as good as satellite it is not too bad most days. I have a wireless network at home and simply move my laptop around with me if I want to listen to something. No it is not as portable as my Grundig radio but it works. I suppose in doing this I have given in to what broadcasters like the BBC want me to do, but I'm not sure that I had much choice.

By the way, for those wanting fuller coverage of Wimbledon, BBC Five Live and Sports Extra will have wall to wall coverage which I think will be available on the internet, unlike their World Cup coverage which is blocked for people outside of the UK.

Late June means the return of the annual Wimbledon tennis tournament,
generally regarded as the signature event of the sport. Beginning Monday,
June 26th, the BBC World Service will be airing special weekday programming
summarizing news and results of the tournament every day, and some editions
may be audible to the USA on the European and African shortwave services of
	the World Service.

The program, called "Wimbledon Live", will air to the Americas (XM Satellite
Radio) at 1430, 1630, and 1830 UT; via Sirius satellite radio at 1430; to
Europe (and webcast) at 1430, 1530 and 1830; to Africa at 1830 and 1930 UT.

Hope all here are well; it has been quite quiet on the list lately.
Anybody still listening to shortwave in the summer months? What are
you listening to? Are you instead, like me, more apt to listen to
webcasts or download files to digital MP3 players?

	Best regards,

Richard Cuff / Allentown, PA USA
