My situation is similar -- with a WiFi network at home, "Replay Radio"
software that can automatically capture audio out of a sound card and
save it as MP3 -- there are manual, freeware tools that do that but
require more manual steps -- and an MP3 player, which can now be had
for $40 or less with enough capacity to be useful -- I have more
diverse listening choices than radio, by itself, can offer.
However, when sitting by a lake somewhere, on a still summer evening,
there's still nothing like a shortwave radio...

With the BBC WS pretty much gone from NA and with their restructured and repetitive news schedule, the main reason I purchased a shortwave radio all those years ago has gone. I now listen to radio on the internet and although the audio quality is not as good as satellite it is not too bad most days. I have a wireless network at home and simply move my laptop around with me if I want to listen to something. No it is not as portable as my Grundig radio but it works. I suppose in doing this I have given in to what broadcasters like the BBC want me to do, but I'm not sure that I had much choice.
