[IRCA] TP for 5 Feb from Victoria, BC
Like the other Victoria DXers, I have to say this morning was head and shoulders above recent ones. Even though signals continued erratic, the sheer strength of some of the signals was noticeable straight away when I started listening just before 1500UT. Things did start to fade by 1540, though JOUB ruled the channel nicely at its s/off then. Should have started earlier though....594 was mildly off-scale on the propagation monitor at 1415 for example... One other observation was that the bulk of the signals were under 1000kHz.
pretty darn good audio (at least briefly):
594 JOAK at 1512UT with someone else underneath (very unusual; don't think it was DU judging by conditions)
774 JOUB
828 JOBB at 1459UT
972 HLCA at 1522UT
1566 HLAZ at 1531UT
reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or noise):
603 HLSA at 1502 //558
747 JOIB
not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise:
639 likely CNR-1, sounded CC, but a second or two removed from //5030
864 a mess at 1515, woman talking at 1518, seemed JJ but not //1287?? pretty spotty reception on both
873 JOGB //774 at 1513
936 high pitched CC pips on hour, big carrier, but low modulation
945 CNR1 //5030 1519UT
954 JOKR likely w/ JJ talk by man at 1545
1134 Korea //972 at 1504
1143 vocal mx at 1540, Taiwan?
1377 CNR-1 //5030
1593 CNR-1 CC talk //5030
Burbles in the splatter and noise:
702 Asiatic at 1527UT, but not //NHK2, nor N. Korea??
1161 mumbling talk at 1510UT, big carrier, wasn't //CNR1; Taiwan has been heard here
1377 weak chimes at 1543UT, NHK2 s/off u/China
Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): most noticeable: 855 w/hum, 1098 DU
Other notes: far Aleutians beacon "ADK" was heard on 530, first time in quite awhile, but no "SQM" on 529. The off channel 1575 hum from 1574.943 was heard again, but never heard any audio on the channel.
