Quite an improvement this morning, not only over yesterday, but over much of the
last several weeks. Considering the mostly wimpy TA carriers last night, this
came as a pleasant surprise. I was also just reading on the Topband list about
a Taiwanese amateur making 160 meter contacts to the northeastern US, so the
good conditions might have been fairly widespread.
Listened from 1400-1425, then another quick check back at 1530; signals were
fairly consistent when strong, though still a lot of erratic fading on the
weaker ones.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):
567 JOIK (this was pretty consistent this morning, unlike its stablemate on 747)
774 JOUB
828 JOBB (with someone else underneath)
972 HLCA at 1421UT
reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
279 R. Rossii
594 JOAK surprisingly weak considering conditions, and there was often another
station there
603 HLSA //558
747 JOIB
873 JOGB //828
1017 CRI; man in KK //5965, noted a number of times at this level
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker
558 HLQH //603; 2 stations at 1410UT
639 CNR-1 //4460; sounded like an echo on 639; not noted before
657 likely N. Korea, off channel, with mumbly talk
666 JOBK //594 plus someone else, not // to 576
702 NHK2 stations //774
711 KK talk by man, presumed HLKA
981 CNR-1 //4460 at 1413UT
1134 JJ sounding talk, likely JOQR
1287 JJ talk at 1408, JOHR
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :
576 Russia?
612 JOLK //594 at 1528UT
648
675
738 two stations
756 didn't seem //4460; big carrier at 1418UT
792 mx, seemed Asiatic
864
918
1008, big hum on channel o/mx
1143 woman talking, didn't seem //738
1242
1566 usual big carrier, but not audio until 1529UT
1575
Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
1098 Asia, 1251, 1314
best wishes,
Nick
