[IRCA] Re: IBOC

Hi Curt,

Thanks for the info. None of those stations are audible
for me here with exception of WQAM who sometimes
at night can get past the loud local WTBN I have on 570. I
probably should have specified meaning stations within
my hearing radius. Anyway QAM is never strong enough
or free of interference to hear the digital sidebands,
by my experience.

I have to confess I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek about
being chilly, we did reach the 30's at night a couple of
times in the past month, but today was in the high 70's.
We are starting the season of damp morning fogs.

Does WSBR promote using HD radio on the air at all?
I presume HD is the consumer-friendly term they
would use, just as HD-TV is in use? I'd think that
IBOC is a term only radio people would know. Any
stories in the local newspapers? There seems to
be a high concentration of stations using it in your area.

Bob,

740 WSBR here in Boca has been running IBOC daily, but at 2.5 kW, not a
powerhouse station. Also, 560 WQAM Miami was running IBOC last time I
checked. Others reported that I haven't confirmed are: 980 WHSR Pompano
Beach, and 1470 WWNN Pompano Beach. These are from a list compiled by
Barry McLarnon VE3JF Ottawa, ON.

Not chilly today, I just fired up the AC.

Probably someone further north will have a better answer. I am in
chilly (sometimes) Fla and haven't found anyone on AM down here
using it, though we have a local on 89.7 doing so.
