Yes. I also am wondering which stations/networks you were listening too. 

I would have thought that the national BBC networks would have had
better world news coverage than the local stations. Stands to reason.
People tune to local stations to hear local news. (Well, I do...).
Perhaps some want to hear news "in general", but those people would
likely be satisfied with what they receive from the local stations.
