Re: [IRCA] TP for 28 Aug from Victoria, BC

A delayed response from the Charlottes, but hopefully better late than never.  It was a very good morning on the 28th....surely better than it was this morning (the 29th).  I'm checking in from Skidegate (best coffee on the islands and Wi-Fi to boot).  Great day visiting the fabulous Haida Heritage Centre.
Here's my report from the 28th:

TP report for 28Aug08
A good Asian morning!

Monitored this morning between 12:27 and 14:40
with a good Asian opening especially for the CC stations, while the JJ stations
were slow to fade out after dawn.  First,
some observations re TAs last night.  I note
the A/K indices are quite favourable with SF 67, A 2 and K 0 this morning.

Although not as productive as Aug 25 or 26, still a fairly
decent evening.  All the more so, since
there was virtually nothing audible on the 27th.  Hets heard (audio is noted otherwise),
between 04:57 and 05:30 UTC:

180, 639, 666 (late), 684.05 (late), 693 (late), 783, 774,
792, 819, 837, 855, 864, 873, 936 (late), 954, 963, 972, 981, 999 (COPE at an 8
at 05:10), 1008, 1017, 1026, 1035 (a 7 at 05:27 with EZL music presumed Portugal),
1044 (6), 1089, 1098, 1107, 1116, 1125 (a 6), 1134, 1143, 1152 (6 prob Spain),
1161, 1215 (a 6), 1224, 1269, 1287, 1314, 1341, 1359, 1413, 1485, 1503, 1566 (a
“5.5”….snippets of audio….I’m still determined to hear TWR Benin here!), 1575
(a 6), 1584 and 1602.  Lots of hets, but
not enough audio!!!

Onto this morning’s catch.
One observation noted today, is that the ALA 100 (about 60’ quadrangular
vertical loop oriented about 330 degrees) yields different signals than the
other antennae I have….BOG, short Beverage, and ALA MW phased array.  Those 3 were quite similar in receiving
ability.  Most noticeable was 1566 which
was all HLAZ on the first three at 14:00,
but clearly DU with presumed 3NE on the ALA.

Russian LW were about average with good signals on 153, 180,
189, 234 and 279.  First time this season
also heard snippets of probably Mongolian Radio on 209, although it’s always a
difficult frequency due to an Alaskan TWEB broadcast.

NHK1 was very well heard on 531, 594, and 612.  The Russians were there again, when I checked
fairly late (so wasn’t expecting them) on 549, 576, and 666 around 13:46.
There were just a smattering of Filipino stations today.

630 had VOR in JJ with RR folk music at 13:50.

621 an interesting frequency since there was a station in CC
with a strong echo.

657 noted from North Korea
at strong level (best this season)

684 noted with a Filipino and cochannel.

738 had presumed Taiwan Fisheries channel, late after 14:00 at 9 level.

Strongest of the NHK2 was 774 with Italian lessons after 14:00….lots of fun!

Skipped over the mid range this morning.

1287:  Noted a nice
“HBC Radio” ID at 13:17.

1395 was in Chinese with a strong echo at 13:41.

1386    I’m
sure I was hearing Thai here as well as NHK2.

1475  Armchair level
for Malaysia at
13:28.  Solid 9!
First time noted so strong this season.

1566  The cochannel to
HLAZ was there weakly at tune-in at 12:27,
but didn’t seem to pick up at all this morning.

1575  Didn’t hear AFN
much this morning.  VOA Thailand had the
channel all to itself.

X-band Aussies were present with weak audio, both early
(surprising) and late on 1611, 1629, 1638, 1683, and 1701.
