Even with the loops at right angles, Craig?   I've used a DXP-3 
phaser with two smallish ALA100 loops at right angles in the past and 
gotten reasonable nulls, sort of like turning a box loop without 
tilting it, but results are better if I phase a wire vs. one of the loops.

What kind of phaser were you using?  Perhaps this is a concern with 
the MFJ1026?
