[IRCA] Digital Recorders MP3 Technology. Advice sought.

Back again,

It really looks like it's gonna happen! I'm gonna get back to active AM
DXing since 2001!

Have a nice desktop cassette recorder/player back from Whidbey Island
years (1984 - 1986) . Two line-level meters (L & R) with tape and
microphone inputs.
Very good distortion and intermod figures. Two separate (L & R) gain
control potentiometers in line input

Problem is, it will require replacing at least one known leaky
electrolytic to alleviate DC dumping onto one of the gain control pots.
Pot gets "staticky" and I have to apply control cleaner to the pot to
clear the noise. Then it has to be done about monthly. Think it worth
fixing, but it's well past its obsolescence date and have to consider
deep-sixing it.

Also have a nice RadioShack portable cassette recorder/player. Just a
little red "blinky" light to give a rough level indication. Audio level
not critical, as it has an effective AGC circuit to hold level fairly
constant.

BUT I WANT TO USE SOME MORE RECENT TECHNOLOGY. Non-mechanical.

Please, I'm inviting advice on any stand-alone MP3 recorder/players.
Something around $100 range. Want new DX recordings to be MP3 from the
beginning. Also want to begin converting old cassettes from 1978 - 2001
era of DX into MP3.

Advice, please!
