Re: [IRCA] Oregon Beach Ultralight DU's for 8-16

Hi Patrick,

South Pacific propagation during the recent three day trip to the Oregon coast was probably the best that I could have hoped for, considering the new-cycle solar activity. One out of three "off days" for DU propagation certainly wasn't bad, and even on that day I heard more South Pacific stations at the Tillamook County ocean coast viewpoint than I hear all year long here in Puyallup, WA.

The high ocean cliff elevation at the "Rockwork" viewpoint seems to have provided a serious South Pacific DXing edge over the much lower cliff at Lincoln City, and will probably be the Ultralight DXpedition venue of choice for next year's summer trip. Thanks again for your kind welcome, and your helpful information regarding the UnID-DU mysteries. We all had a great time around Cannon Beach, and can't wait to get back!

Gary,

Sorry your final morning wasn't that good. But living on the coast, I
have experiencd the same thing many times. It is nice you had some great
conditions. Maybe things are getting better for the Pacific once again.
I got all of my antennas now tuned up and I will start checking things
out within the next couple of weeks.
It did not surprise me you had a good opening to AK on Longwave, as
around Midnight PDT I had C&W/Gospel peaking on 850. I was tired and did
not stick around for an ID, but it was the best off the NW EWE, which
probably was KICY. They are pretty regular in the Fall/Winter/Spring.
Weak AC under KKOH too (KNOM).
Thanks again for the great visit.
73,

Patrick
