[IRCA] TP logs from Grayland 3-28-08
This morning's DX here on the rainy Washington coast was somewhat OK but
not spectacular. Lots of TPs were coming in but none were in
particularly well. The upper part of the dial was pretty much dead
except for 1566 and 1575. Even the normal high-band powerhouses like
1287 1323 1422 and 1475 were, at best, weak carriers with traces of
audio. Conditions didn't seem nearly as good as yesterday, even
allowing for the fact that yesterdays logs were limited to the 700s &
800s. As was the case yesterday, there was a sharp peak in signal
strength around 1330. Before 1300 and after 1400 things were pretty
dull. Highlights include:
594 JAPAN, JOAK, Japanese talk fair 1313
648 RUSSIA, 1400 "Welcome to the Voice of America in Korean" EE ID,
then man w/news in Korean. Briefly good but soon faded.
657 N KOREA, Korean talk & choral music 1323, inst music //3250/3320
1355 fair-poor
666 JAPAN, JOBK, JJ talk //594 1324 fair
693 JAPAN, JOAB, 1320, weather, local ID, into Korean lessons fair in
CBU splatter
738 UNID, 2 stations mixing 1328, probably S Korea & Taiwan
774 CHINA, unid Chinese talk mixing with JOUB 1333
909 JAPAN, Japanese talk fair-poor 1334, either JOVX or JOCB
918 CHINA, unid, Chinese talk 1328, faded 1329, but back by 1332
w/echoey woman talking. Probably much wanted Shandong RGD
927 JAPAN, NHK1 3+1 time pips 1300 very poor, otherwise only had
traces of audio
936 CHINA, 4+1 long time pips then bits of talk 1300 & 1400, weak both
times
945 CHINA, fair-poor w/pips, theme music, Chinese talk 1300
954 JAPAN, JOKR, Japanese talk fair 1323
963 CHINA, CRI Russian service poor w/theme song 1359, gone after 1400
972 S KOREA, poor w/ 3+1 time pips 1300, then oriental music, better
1302 w/man & woman in Korean, good w/Korean woman 1335. Some IBOC QRM
from station on 950, probably KYES.
981 CHINA, fair w/m&w in Chinese, 4+1 pips, theme music, Zhongyang
Renmin Guangbo Dientai ID
1008 JAPAN, JOOR, weak JJ talk 1401
1134 JAPAN, JOQR fair w/theme music & JJ talk 1300, unid instr music in
background probably S Korea, no pips heard
1170 S KOREA, KBS World Radio, Chinese service fair and mostly dominant

1206 CHINA, Yanbian RGD fair w/Korean talk 1304
1475 SABAH, carrier & bits of audio in briefly, then gone 1309
