I've been to Cape Hatteras a number of times.  Most excellent in the later afternoon/sunset.  

Going to make another run at it this year.  The orientation of the south side of the Cape allows for a beverage not to exceed 5 miles on an azimuth of 30 degrees.   If one positions the beverage correctly, there is a salt pond at one end.
