** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Nov 11 tune-in at 1800 via Argentine remote, LRA36 presumably just started, with music, S6/S7. Constant noise level of S5/S6 at the SDR always makes this tiresome listening tho more or less readable. A carrier would help to overcome it. Did not try to detect and reconfirm at least a much-reduced carrier. Too much else going on now, so only occasional chex: 1842, ``comunicad`` contact info, 1843 acknowledging report de México. 1918 outro ``Noticias Australes``. 1949 brief mention of ``despedida`` and off way early, no signal on further random chex -- until 2106, now it`s back on, talk over musical background; still at 2120. Not checked again till 2335 when it`s off, but?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ASCENSION. 6135, Nov 11 at 0554, African talk mentions Gaza, Nigeria, S9: BBC Hausa at 0529-0600 only per EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 4985, Nov 11 at 2320, surprised to hear some Brazuguese instead of a JBA carrier at best, typically later at night, from R. Brasil Central, Goiânia. Blocked by RTTY on the plus side, but clear if tuning LSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 9415, Nov 11 at 2324, surprisingly strong Vietnamese, S9+10/20 and much louder than WRMI, WBCQ; into song like a hymn but can`t be since this is CRI Viet service from Beijing site; toward SE Asia, must be close to off-the-backward thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, Nov 11 at 2319, R. Rebelde is not off the air as was the case last night. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, Nov 11 at 0555, JBA music; could Ballsmacker Radio still be on this Friday night? Yes, until 0600*: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,120964.msg375728.html https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,120962.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 25695 USB, Nov 11 at 1839, heavy rock music, tnx to tip from Walt Salmaniw on the WOR iog that MRI is here, i.e. Mix Radio International. I`m getting it direct at S6, presumably sporadic E from the Chicago area, but listen further for convenience via Alberta SDR where Don Moman is also hearing it. Lots of heavily produced promos/IDs, but I wish they would Mix in some other music genres like world, folk or classical. 1857, ``Mix Radio International Worldwide``, then played newer version of ``Venus``, then ``Eternal Flame`` by Bangles. 1904 ID ``Broadcasting from the United States of America...`` 1934 ``Best of shortwave radio, Mix Radio International``. Still going at 2042, 2106, 2120 chex. Not checked again until 2316 direct, unheard, nor at 2335 to Alberta. More reports of MRI on 11 mb: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,121017.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Nov 11 at 2317, VOT is not off, S9+20 direct but vs intermittent line noise blasts to S9+40! Something about caving. Want to get stuck like that last spelunker? Then 5960.006 at 2337 via UTwente, S9+30/40, music with good modulation. 2351 s/off with wrong labeling of times as UTC but they are really local UT+3; at least this 5960 gets mentioned as ``02-03 UTC``; this is by the otherwise well-spoken YL, not the badax. Then IS for a while and chopoff* before 2356 when it would have restarted with German IDs; something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K Q O G B A N I. 25900, Nov 11 at 1631, BBC English JBA S6/S7 direct in daily bihour toward S Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2216 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday November 11 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S7/S5 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed Saturday November 11 at 1630 on WRMI 15770. Tuned in direct at 1629, No signal! But pops on just in time for WOR, poor S7/S8. Then into UTwente, European target area, it`s only S7/S5. But Maine SDR on the way has it well, S9+20/15. Alberta SDR at 1641 getting it sufficiently, S6/S8, even tho off the side of NE beam, so this should be usable in much of North America beyond the skip zone. I kept it running at least in background to be sure there were no further breaks. Also confirmed Saturday November 11 at 1700 on WRN North America webcast. Also confirmed Saturday November 11 at 2028 about 2 minutes into so started circa 2026 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+13 into nearby SDR. Also confirmed Saturday November 11 at 2030 on WRMI webcast-only, and on WRN North America webcast. Next: 0100 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0330vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0600] 1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy [ex-2000] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular?] 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [irregular?] 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB 1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2215] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW One may contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 9960, Nov 11 at 0555, JBA carrier past 0600, presumed still RV until 0659, much weaker than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, Nov 11 at 0247, WTWW is finally back on air, as George McClintock just notified me, after the 3-day visit by a Continental engineer. Ex-bishop Bob Biermann pontificating, VG direct and S9+18/25 into Missouri SDR. Off somewhere around 0500. Check 9475 next in daytime, at least afternoons. If he fixed two transmitters could also simul-be on other ex-frequencies. 9475 not heard Nov 11, nor 5085 on by 2419 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) TIPS FOR RATIONAL LIVING Kiss It Goodbye: What If We Send a Paranoid-Psychopath back to the White House in 2024? -- Frogs Boiled: What Trump is Planning for a Second Term Last night Democrats saw what happens when they run on the issues. Glenn Hauser logs November 10-11, 2023 |

Saturday, November 11 2023
** CHINA. 10000, Nov 11 at 0058, checking calibration of the NH KiwiSDR, timepips neither WWV nor WWVH but almost in synch with them way under. What`s this? 0059, BPM ID multiple times in Morse code, and two voice announcements in Chinese just before 0100. WRTH shows location Pucheng, not Beijing, 24h with 20 kW, also on 2500, 5000, 15000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** COLOMBIA [and non]. 5910, Nov 10 at 0432, S9+40/50 of dead air with some hum. Oh2, CRI relay via CUBA at 03-05 is back here for B-season, ex-9790, obliterating Colombia`s only? SW station, Alcaraván Radio, during a bihour of primetime. How rude. But it`s JBA underneath as long as no mod from C/C, and slightly better with LSB tuning since it`s more like 5909.96 - no het audible. HJDH would be better off on 6010, but not completely; altho 6010 has Brasil, but NOT XEOI which Aoki still lists despite gone for multiple years! HFCC shows CRI 250 kW at 305 degrees thisaway in Eng and Yue, in B-season use for many years; only other 5910 is !IRDR! = standby but no disaster has ever? occurred meriting activation for relief! on this or any other reserved frequency in each band. Available 24/7 to all 85 CIRAF zones, placeholder SMG Vatican site with 100 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5800, Nov 10 at 0431, pulse jamming vs nothing. WRMI ruined this frequency forever by briefly putting R. República on it several months ago. WRMI hours are now 22-04 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, Nov 10 at 0433, RHC with S9+30/40 of dead air except maybe a trace of modulation. Nothing audible on X2 = 12000. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9440, Nov 10 at 2117, R. Cairo at S9/+10 direct but JBM music. By 2133 a bit better into Italian SDR, S9+20/30 in distorted English, about ``around the world``. Something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN [non]. 6150, Nov 10 at 0434, Japanese, S9+20/30, mentions ``NHK`` pronounced as in English since JJ has no letters! HFCC shows 03-05, 250 kW, 140 degrees from Issoudun, FRANCE toward CIRAFs 37-39 = Spain, across N Africa to Arabia and Turkey. Stays on 6105 in Japanese at 02-04 via ISS at 290 degrees for CIRAFs 10-11, Mexico, C America, Caribbean but also hitting much of N America. So, are there more Japanese speakers with SW in those zones than English further north? Hardly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Nov 10 at 0438 UT, ND beacon SW is JBA. Sad situation when this nearby Stillwater becomes DX vs OG&E`s line noise level, worst on LW but extending to 25+ MHz. Four days later I am still waiting for any response to my latest complaint Nov 6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Nov 10 at 2300, VG direct, token English from SNR, still opens with B23 schedule but no language details, inviting listener contact, no news and soon interview about a 300-piece art exhibition from the Americas, Alaska to the southern tip; but sorely lacking any visual content, this being SW, unlike lots of pirates, or Radiograms, which manage somehow (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.002, Nov 10 at 2300, VOT is JBA to DX-398 portable but at 2323, S9+20/30 into R75, something about Gaza; 2355 IS playing, S9+25/35 into UTwente where measured; 2356 restart IS with IDs in German; 2400 timesignal and s/on extraneous German, news until chopoff at 2413* again, uncovering the CCCCCCI which was always an understation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 26110 FM, Nov 10 at 1625 UT, KMK282 at KOVR/KMAX fades up briefly in report about prospects for ski areas opening; never reaching full quieting (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2216 monitoring: add (Tunisia) to contents. Confirmed Friday November 10 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, still not on 918 or 207, ever? S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR but with considerable pop music CCI. Certainly not Iran nor 30 watts in UK, per MWlist leaving only this on extended schedule; unless an unlisted pirate, unlikely: ``ROU SRR Radio Târgu Mureș Minorități/Marosvásárhelyi Rádió/Radio Neumarkt SRR Marosvásárhelyi Rádió 0345-0500 hu [SaSu], SRR Marosvásárhelyi Rádió 0345-1900 hu [Mo-Fr], SRR Radio Târgu Mureș Minorități 0500-0600 rom [SaSu], SRR Marosvásárhelyi Rádió 0600-1800 hu [Su], SRR Marosvásárhelyi Rádió 0600-1900 hu [Sa], SRR Radio Neumarkt 1900-2000 de [Mo-Sa] Târgu Mureș/Ernei * 15 Harris DX-15 tx // 1197 1593 live audio http://stream2.srr.ro:8312/; `` Also confirmed Friday November 10 at 2130 on WRMI webcast-only. Also confirmed Friday November 10 at 2300 ex-2200 on WRMI 9955, first SWBC of #2216, fair direct but seems undermodulated and tinny. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 1630 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0100 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0330vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0600] 1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy [ex-2000] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular?] 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [irregular?] 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB 1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2215] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW One may contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490 = 74 Hz = 7489.926, UT Sat Nov 11 at 0100, WBCQ opening `AAAWWW`, but VP S4/S6 into New Hampshire SDR I have picked; and NOT // 5130+ which stays with T****, and 6160- which stays with some gospel huxter, and 3265+ not on the air; and 9330.00 stays of course with the flat-earthers. So to really hear AAAWWW one must bring up the webcast quickly - soon recognizing that it`s playback of last week, pre-time-change, 68 degrees and Angela is ``half-naked`` as Allan strives to make his listeners envious. Never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 711 kHz, Nov 10 at 0439, JBA carrier, no doubt Morocco`s in occupied WESTERN SAHARA. Cursory check of 531-1044 kHz finds only this TA, no Algerians 531 or 891, no Spaniards on 684, 774, 1044 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0123 UT November 11

The program was very interesting and I enjoyed it very much. I listened regularly to shortwave radio as a teenager in the 1970s. My favourite program was the Sunday show on Radio Nederlands. After a long break, I recently purchased a Tecsun PL880 and began listening again. Thank God for WRMI. I am located in Dundas, Ontario about 60 km west of Toronto. We live in a 6th floor condo and I drop a 50' antenna off our balcony. Your program came through very strongly with little interference or fading. Thanks for keeping shortwave alive. ** MALI. 15125, Nov 8 at 1624, algo talk at S6/S8, best extracontinental signal on 19mb which is mostly vacant. EiBi shows CRI Arabic via Bamako to east Africa. Did not strike me as Arabic, maybe dialectical? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. FM DX report Nov 7 under USA includes some OKitems ** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal, Nov 8 at 0611 UT, is back! After exactly a month, since Oct 7 of wasted watts transmitting nothing but dead sound and black video on all subchannels - except for a brief break totally off the air. It was still so, checked a few hours earlier on Nov 7. But the lineup has changed: 17-1, K17JN-D, 3ABN main channel 17-2, & 17-3, skipped! nothing 17-4, 3ABN-ES = Spanish 17-5 & 17-6 & 17-7, skipped! nothing 17-8, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RD - which means what? 17-9, AUDIO ONLY: 3ABN-RL - which means what? 17-10, AUDIO ONLY: Radio 74 I gather that virtual channel numbers displayed do not always match up with `real` channels, why? Previously, one of the AUDIO ONLY channels was always silent! Radio 74 network is also on 89.3 KIEL Loyal OK 3.8 kW south of Enid, semi-local but ACI from 89.1 Enid translator. Here is how it shows at https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=k17jn-d before they get this updated info from me; strangely it`s filed under Market #50, OKC, altho no one there is going to be able to see it. Site is between N/S roads Imo and SH 132; just north of US 412, between E/W: East 410 Rd and East 420 Rd - designations I don`t recall ever seeing on road signs. After news, 2309-2319 first feature of interest is about the whistling language of the Canary Islands, Sr. Romero talking about it as Quintana translates - from Spanish, not whistlish. Too few examples of how it really sounds. Reception sufficient but some deep fades, direct into DX-398 with a few meters of clip-on antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, VOT extra German cutoff time in last report should have read 2412.5* not 2312.5*, i.e. -0012.5* Nov 8. Also, one sked version says 7285 is correct for 2130-2230 English, and also at 0400-0500. But HFCC still shows 9610 at 2130; which is it? I check Nov 8 at 2200 into UTwente: nothing on 7285; 9610 with about equal mixture of poor signals, one of which sounds like VOT English, the other Chinese? Aoki shows CNR8 in Mongolian from Beijing 491 site, and VOT English. 7285 would be better. 5960, here`s a new erroneous at Emirler! Via UTwente, S9+25/40, Nov 8 at 2346 amid Turkish music, brief announcement not in English; more music, another very brief presumably Turkish announcement, music until chopoff at 2356*. That`s the normal endtime for English. Uncovers the CCCCCCI which has been underneath. Wrong program feed and no one noticed. After 2300, only English is scheduled anywhere on SW, but Turkish HS presumably runs 24h, supposed to be in a SW break per HFCC, until 2200* on 6120, resuming at *0100 on 6000 (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
