Glenn Hauser logs March 24-25, 2025  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 25 2025

Logs
** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 9535 // stronger 9730, March 25 at 1935,
Chinese music fill during scheduled `Portuguese` hour, via Baoji and
Kashgar sites per EiBi, and 9730 with an understation in French, which
would be Vietnam, all into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [and non]. 10000, March 25 at 1945 UT, bit of music, `Dance
of the Hours` -- get it? A.k.a. ``hello Mudda, Hello Fadda``, and time
pips, announcements in Italian from the ``amateur`` timesignal station
calling itself Italcable, which was really the name of the
point-to-point SW service years ago. Same music bit in following
minutes. Also surprised by some Morse code, starting WWV? Guess what,
WRTH does not include Italy in the STFT sexion on page 797. I suspect
this qualify as a pirate, seldom reported as such. Heard via UTwente.
Occasionally double-pips, so some other station is out of synch. 1959
QRM code ID from BPM China. 2000 full ID and contact info in Italian.
EiBi shows location as Andrate 45N31-07E53 -- which is in Torino
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 9424.998-, March 25 at 1919, S9+5/15 into UTwente, VOK
reciting its times and frequencies in English; trouble is, Aoki & EiBi
show this hour is supposed to be in German! Per WRTH, English at 19-20
is on 9875, 11635, 11910 and 7210 so I check those out during music
after 1923, and the first three sound the same, 7210 too poor, as is
6170, the other `German` frequency. Of course, all their music sounds
the same, but wires are crossed somewhere. At 1931, all except 6170
are perceptibly in English talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, March 25 at 0647 UT, heavy distortion QRMing
KQCV OKC gospel huxter, previously traced to XEERG, NL. Usually
audible at night, but worse than usual now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 1549.82, March 25 at 0626, JBA carrier still perceived
hetting 1550 stations, presumably from XEREL Morelia, Michoacán (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1670, Mar 24 circa 2030 UT, Virtual DJ Radio webcast
relay via low-power, Part 15? transmitter somewhere in Enid, peaking
at junxion of US81 and US412, and audible whenever I`m in the area, or
even downtown on caradio. Doubtful it could be DXed at night, but it
would be challenging to try to pull it in as far away as possible on
daytime groundwave (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, Mar 24 at 2030 UT, dead air in $ tereo still from LP
transmitter in downtown Enid, originally for the `Tree of Light`
sponsored by OG&E = the electric company, already two sesquimonths
after Xmas! Must be on 24/7 but no music heard lately, altho I only
check it for a minute every few days. As I pointed out to the CP
holder of KOKJ-LP, this will be an obstacle if he ever gets his 95.1
on the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Mar 24 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG
S9+20/30 into Maryland SDR, starts with A25 sked from March 30 but
generalized only, no language details, not even English. Listeners
have to KNOW that it will likely be an hour earlier than now, at 2200
UT and on M/W/F only. Version of same new sked via AER:
``Esquema de emisiones para A-25 de Radio Exterior de España,
mayoritariamente en español:
0000-0200 17715 AM-S; 15500 AM-N (M a S)
1400-2300 15390 AF-O, ATL-S; 15520 OR-M, INDICO; 17715 AM-S; 15500
AM-N (S y D)
1500-2300 15390 AF-O, ATL-S; 15520 OR-M, INDICO (L a V)
1800-2400 17715 AM-S; 15500 AM-N (L a V)``
Note: will be on three 15 MHz channels within 130 kHz of each other,
not much frequency diversity! No more 17855 for NAm in A-seasons. OR-M
means East Middle; AF-O must mean Africa West, altho East would also
be -O +riental. Indico means Indian as in Ocean. Should we call it
`Indican Ocean`??

2302 finally news; 2307 contact info; 2308 feature about
non-binary-gender issue, interview with Barbara Whitman of University
of Illinois at Chicago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003+, March 24 at 2300, VOT English not off
the air, VG S9+30/40 into UTwente. In AM Synch mode it first read out
5959.993-, with a subaudible het, but switching to plain AM and back
to synch, now it reads out properly 10 Hz higher, why? No time to
listen today until 2356 recheck when it`s already off, replaced by pop
music from China, maybe even in English. This one closer to 5960.000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2287 monitoring: confirmed Monday
March 24 at 2050 the 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003-, S8/9+5 but
noisy into UTwente. From next week: 1930.

Also confirmed UT Tuesday March 25 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+40/50 into
S Texas SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday March 25 at 1309 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S8/9+5
direct.

Also confirmed Tuesday March 25 at 1411 the 1400 on WRMI 9955, S6/S8
direct. BTW, I have not perceived any jamming of 9955 for quite a
while, even before R. Martí was deleted. Next:

2100 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public service
program: thanks for a generous contribution marking Vernal Equinox,
from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, by check on a US bank to Glenn
Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and says, ``Many thanks for your
unique service to the world.``

One may also contribute not necessarily in US funds via PayPal to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Mar 25 at 0633, NO signal again from WBCQ WLCR; what`s
wrong? 9395 WRMI is there as usual. Still no 9330 circa 1550 and 1900,
to UTwente or GA or MD SDRs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 600, Mar 25 at 0643 UT, WMT Cedar Rapids IA
dominates as usual with C2CAM, but unusually there is QRM from another
C2CAM station *way* out of synch by many seconds. Possibilities in NRC
AM Log as of last August: KOGO CA, KCOL CO, WREC TN, KTBB TX. I think
we can rule out KOGO: besides distance, null thisaway. KCOL also null
thisaway. KTBB does have a lobe thisaway, and WREC is direxional SW.
Assuming everyone in spec, that leaves KTBB Tyler TX, which is also
closest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1650 kHz, Mar 25 at 0637 UT, still tone of about 320 Hz,
probably from KSVE El Paso (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 23-24, 2025  View Printable Version
Monday, March 24 2025

Logs
** FRANCE. 21705-21710-21715, Mar 24 at 1453, weak DRM noise is the
OSOB during degraded propagation. Yes, is on this sked:
https://www.drmrx.org/drm-broadcasts-shortwave-by-frequency/
``21710 TDF (France) 1500-1600 Irregular French Issoudun, France 100
263°Irregular DRM tests. Details unconfirmed.`` - Not in HFCC for B24,
however, HFCC for A25 shows 0500-1700, 150 kW at 110 degrees (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 1549.82, Mar 24 at 0651, still detectable off-frequency
carrier hetting 1550.0 stations, presumed XEREL Morelia (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003+, Sun Mar 23 at 2258, no signal from VOT
into UTwente, going to be another bust? Something`s always erroneous
at Emirler. But 2301 recheck, now it is on at S8+30/45 starting olds
with wildfires in South Korea; recheck 2322, about Lebanon`s PM
visiting Turkey. Now there is 6CI and hum; soon outro as `Pulse of
Turkey`s Foreign Policy`. 2324 `Letterbox` theme starting, same YL
hostess as usual, starts with a comment about an important matter -
Recep becoming even more of a dictator? Of course not! About VOA being
abolished as of 31 March. IHHO, SW radio is a brilliant way to
communicate, endures where other media fail.

Then calls listeners, almost? all of whom are after QSLs: 1) Francis
Multen?, Ireland, heard it in French. 2) Roman Ritnick?, Ukraine. 3)
Mr Alexander, Sweden. 2331, music break. 4) Mr Mei? Lin?, Sichuan,
China. 5) Aman - Bahin?, India, with SWL club since 1990, listener
since 1985. 6) Mr Aisohat?, Argentina. 7) Hidei? Miyaki, Hiroshina,
Japan, heard French service; Feb holidays in Turkey? Valentine`s Day
2/14, but not official. 8) last: Mr. Zhen -?-, China. 2340 reminds us
that new frequencies start 30/3, no details. 2344 playing song request
for someone`s significant other - on staff? 2347 L`box theme, outro.
2348 other music. 2353 s/off as if 1330 on 13635, something`s awry at
Ankara. 2354 IS a few times, off somewhat before 2356* uncovering East
Turkistan, std condemnation, own anthem at 2400 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2287 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 23 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.997+ kHz, S9+10 into
UTwente across Europe. From next week: 1900.

Also confirmed Sunday March 23 at 2100 on WRN Europe webcast.

Also confirmed Sunday March 23 at 2230 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003-, S8/9+5 into UTwente. From next week: 2130 on 3975 AND 6160.
See below.

Missed checking Sunday March 23 at 2330 on WRMIs 7570 & 7780; anyone
hear them? Probably.

Confirmed UT Monday March 24 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+20/40 into S
Texas SDR.

Confirmed UT Monday March 24 at 0300 on Area 51 webcast, already
started maybe a semiminute early. 5130- WBCQ is already playing music
until 0303*

Also confirmed Monday March 24 at 1848 halfway thru the 1830v on
SatZentrale webcast, so would have started about 1844. Next:

2030 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2100 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and says, ``Many thanks for your
unique service to the world.``

woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

``ShortwaveRadio --- Hi Glenn, with every BC season, we are also
changing from CET to summertime (CEST) on 30th March. So, all your WOR
shows are minus one hour UTC. Plus, there will be the extra 6160 kHz
outlet during European evenings as follows:

2230 UT Friday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1430 UT Saturday SW Radio, Germany 6160;
1730 UT Saturday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
0830 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160;
1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.

The latter 3975 is cancelled. A-25 general broadcast times:
6160 kHz: 0700 to 2200 UTC (09:00 to 00:00 CEST) - daily
3975 kHz: 1700 to 0000 UTC (19:00 to 02:00 CEST) - daily
Take care, Andy (Engineer - Shortwave Radio from Winsen on the river
Aller in Germany)``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7570, March 24 at 0638, dead air again like last two nights,
instead of TOMBS, S9+25/30 from WRMI-5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 15770, March 24 at 1455, no signal from WRMI-9
which is supposed to be on 24h, with SMTV during this hour; but there
is a signal on 17790, before sked *1500; unseems English. That would
be RRI in Romanian overlapping at 14-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 344 kHz, March 24 at 0628 UT, JBA carrier should be
strong enough to hear some MCW, but nothing. Maybe my closest, heard
before, JL in Joplin MO (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1650 kHz, March 24 at 0652, again tone of about 320 Hz
against 1650 stations, probably KSVE El Paso. A local listener could
confirm that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7656.0, March 24 at 0639, open carrier except for JBA
clickery roughly twice per second, but seemed to be separate even
weaker clix between them, S9+10/15 vs HSNL, which also difficultizes
determining extent of the clickspan, roughly 7642/7670 = +/- 14 kHz.
Yet another one ending in -6. What is this? In 2020 & 2022, 7656 was
among a long list of Civil Air Patrol frequencies, coincidental?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9162-9219, March 24 at 0644, multi-carrier, multi-tones
beating over this wide 57-kHz range, peaking S9+10 amid circa 9188.
What is this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 22-23, 2025  View Printable Version
Sunday, March 23 2025

Logs
** CANADA [and non]. 1650 kHz, March 23 at 0712 UT, S Asian music from
CINA Mississagua again has QRM from continuous tone of about 320 Hz,
probably KSVE El Paso USA. I wonder why in the world they do it, or
don`t even realize that`s on the air overnight? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, March 23 at 0345, RHC not off the air but S9+30/40 and
suptorted probably in English between dead airs. Something`s always
wrong at RHC. Also with JBA beepery QRM? on the plus side about 6001
at the rate of 108/minute (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Sun Mar 23 at 0706, HCJB S7/S8 JBA in Spanish: I
suppose they are now running all-night? S/on had been at 0923 per
EiBi, first sesquihour+ in Quechua (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA. 6030, March 23 at 0349, JBA carrier, presumably R.
Oromiya, which per EiBi starts at 0253. In the total absence of Cuban
jamming, OCB, and CFVP, now a clear shot at it with requiring a local
remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 660, March 23 at 0319, ``ABC Deportes, 660 AM y 92.1 FM;
sabemos cómo se juega`` -- so it`s XEFZ at the Mountain King again,
dominating from south with K index at 4, preceded by classic rock in
English, i.e. music, not sports! and followed by ``Can`t take my eyes
off of you`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6850 AM, March 23 at 0350 UT, pirate music with
heavy beat of 132/minute, dance/trance?, S9+10/20, the only pirate on
band. Per these, it`s Liquid Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,142591.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475 AM, March 23 at 0355, S9/+10 the thintonations
of Josiah on Station YHWH but no match for the noise level (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 22 at 2305, no VOT signal into UTwente,
and at 2327 occupied only by the ChiCom. 9610, possible accidental
alternate not on air either, just ChiCom Mongolian. At 0440 UT March
23, the final English repeat of VOT totally missing too at UTwente
from 6125, 7285. Something`s very erroneous at Emirler: or maybe they
are too ashamed of censoring any news about Recep`s opponent to even
go on the air?
Via Zacharias Liangas, More about him here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekrem_%C4%B0mamo%C4%9Flu
In light of all this, should I quit so much monitoring of VOT? Better
at 0400 UT Sundays:

Despite the segment name, `Gaza Corner`, this week on `Tangents` from
KALW San Francisco, the subject is Turkey. Audible for a week via

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2287 monitoring confirmed Saturday
March 22 at 1947 about 14 minutes into so started about 1933 UT on
WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG into nearby SDR.

Also confirmed circa 0045 UT Sunday March 23 amid IRRS webstream only,
still at same winter timing of 0030. By next week could be an hour
earlier, or not quite into DST?

Also confirmed UT Sunday March 23 at 0324 about 14 minutes into at
midpoint so the 0315v started early circa 0310 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, JBA
in noise level direct, but VG via nearby remote. Next:

2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 9330, March 22 at 2056, no signal from WLCR on WBCQ; what`s
wrong? Also no signal UT March 23 at 0035 into UTwente, while other
nominally weaker USigs quite audible at S7/S8 or S9 on 9265, 9395,
9930. Propagation has been degraded but surely not blacking out the
path just a bit further north. 9330 still AWOL at 0356 direct check.
Back on by 1608 check in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490-, UT Sun March 23 at 0356, WBCQ S9+10/20, JP Ferraro is
still on now if not on weekday afternoons; `Shortwave Saturday Night`
at 0100-0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7780, UT Sunday March 23 at 0047, WRMI with `Frecuencia al
Día` instead of `Wavescan` as on my last DX/SWL/MEDIA programs
schedule, but now WRMI sked shows FAD at 0030, with WS before it at
0000. I was going to check what Jeff would say about the VOA/USAGM
situation. O well, there are about four dozen airings a week, mostly
on WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7570, UT Sun Mar 23 at 0357, WRMI in S9+20/30 of dead air
except for a few extraneous noises. Top of WRMI skedgrid shows System
G at this hour, but System G thinx it`s only on 9395. It`s System E
that claims this time on 7570 for TOMBS; it figures. And 7570 *still*
or again DA March 23 at 0703, S9+25 direct; while TOMBS is not dead on
7730, 7780, 5850, 5010?, WWCR 5890 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, March 23 at 0356, WRNO is off already, or maybe not on
at all tonight, not checked earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 770, March 23 at 0332 UT, dominant signal with net talk
show, but break for a New Mexico ad, so KKOB is doing well for 12.5 kW
ND, stronger than its northerly neighbors on 760 & 780 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 900 kHz, March 23 at 0329 UT, station gives address as
casscountyradio@gmail.com, music. Guess what, ``Cass County is the
name of nine counties in the United States, each named for Michigan
governor, senator and presidential candidate Lewis Cass`` -- IL, IN,
IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, TX. Who? When was that? {Democratic candidate
for president, 1848.} But only one has a radio station by that slogan,
per Google search, KALT, Atlanta TX, altho NRC AM Log says the 900
call there is KPYN and it`s silent! KALT is on FB however.
Radio-locator knows of only KALT-FM 106.5 in Alturas CA! Guess what:
FCC LMS agrees on the FM in CA, and also a DKALT in Atlanta TX whose
license was canceled almost 20 years ago! So is 900 now KPYN as per
NRC? Yes, in fact since 06/30/2000 per FCC LMS, and Cass County Radio
does not expire until 2029y. And it`s not silent now. Only 33 watts at
night! Don`t you believe it? 1000 day, U1. With so many stations,
excuse me, cheating on their legal night power, makes it impossible to
tally QRP DX catches or even records. If you ask the station and they
even answer, are they going to admit they were on day power?
Possibly, but if denied, can you believe that? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 1270, March 23 at 0338 UT, sportstalk in Spanish, carrier
cutting out irregularly - I think, rather than just the modulation.
Only fit is KFLC Benbrook [The Metroplex] TX, on TUDN network, U4 50/5
kW and heard before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1530, March 23 at 0340, Mexmx from N/S, vs WCKY E/W.
Probably KZNX Creedmoor TX as logged and discussed at length before
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1260, March 23 at 0335 UT, Spanish music from N/S, while
English from E/W. Probably one of the two SS Texans, rather than
weaker or further possibilities: KTAE Elgin TX U1 1000/144, or KLDS
Falfurrias TX U1 500/330 religious; but there are also four Mexicans
led by XEL in CDMX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
