Re: [IRCA] [coastalroundtable] Cannon Beach OR TP loggings for 7 Oct 2012

We had similar results in Grayland. The upper part of the band was decent at times, unlike what others reported. 1575 VOA and 1593 CNR1 were both significantly better today compared to Saturday. IIRC, NHK2 was putting in audio on 1602 as well. 981 CNR1 was huge at times as well, and I think we had reasonable audio from a few others Walt doesn't have listed. Overall, it was sub-par by Grayland standards, and noticeably worse than Saturday. There were lots of carriers, a few of which sometimes sounded like they were going to break through with audio but never did.

I had a bad feeling at 9 p.m. when I tuned to 690 and found it dominated by Spanish talk booming in. I didn't think it was CBU :( and I was right.

Rockwork, OR TP report for 7 October, 2012: Down, but not out. All Asia

As I had mentioned earlier, I got out to the Rockwork HWY 101 turn-off, just south of Cannon Beach, OR at about 12:45 UTC. On the way there, there seemed to be some hets on split frequencies, but not as strong as yesterday morning. SF 98, A 4, K 1. Note that minor geomagnetic storms are forecast for the next 24 hours reaching G1 levels, so perhaps this explains the sub-par conditions this morning.

153 Radio Rossii at 6 level, // to 279 at 7 level

558: HLQH, // to 603 at 14:15 in Korean

594: JOAK at 9 level at 14:14, and again at 14:30. Very strong!

603: 6 level HLSA at 14:15, // to 7 level 558

639: CNR 1 China at only 7 level this morning, compared to multiple echos yesterday morning on same frequency at 8 to 9 level!

657: 9 level North Korea at 14:13. Very nice today! Also at 8 level earlier at 13:33

693: JOAB Tokyo particularly strong today with English lessons at 14:13, and still at 9 level at 14:29 with more English lessons.

738: 8 level Taiwan Fisheries at 8 level, // to 1143 also at 8 level at 14:23, but not as strong as yesterday.

774: JOUB Akita, at 9 level at 14:12. By comparison, 747 was really struggling with strong cochannel interference earlier this morning.

828: JOBB Osaka. Only 7.5 level today, compared to 9+ armchair yesterday!

837: Strong station at 13:36. Despite strength, I’m not sure who exactly this is

846: A difficult channel. I’m seeing a carrier on 845.258, relatively strong, as well as 3 carriers on 846.000, 845.987, and 846.010. Not sure whether the first channel is real, or something that’s being generated within my set-up. Looks real to me.

864, 873: Only threshold today. 873 was well heard (JOGB, Kumamoto) yesterday.

891: Pretty strong, but seemingly very low modulation, so couldn’t tell for sure who this was. At 14:26

900 KNUI, Kahalui at very good level at 13:57, with some 910 splatter.

940: KKNE Waipahu at 13:57 with All-Hawaiian music. Very good 9 level reception.

1008: 7 level at 14:09. Still 6 to 7 at 14:34. ? CNR1 or was this Taiwan?

1017, 1044, 1053: all only 6 level

1134: Presumed KBS, Kimpo at 14:24 7 level.

1143: 8 level Taiwan Fisheries at 14:23, // to 738

1287: 7 level JOHR, Sapporo at 14:07, and still going at same level at 14:35.

1332: 6 level only

1566: HLAZ at 7 level briefly at best today.
