I spend a lot of time listening to CBC-1 on 540 khz out of Regina, SK. 
Even though it's a national feed, it "feels" more like a local, and it's
really good programming (IMHO).  The CBC-1 outlet at 690 in Vancouver
often doesn't fare very well against KIRO-710 and XETRA-690. Also, whether
with this or another station, there's something about trying to hang on to
the content as it goes into a slow deep fade - reminds of listening as a
kid to CBS Radio Mystery Theater from Chicago 600 miles away - that makes
it much better than simply downloading it or putting a CD in and listening
to it in digitally-restored perfection.
