But computers are NOT. Here's the latest from my HD dilemma: Got a call from FS. It appeared to be a defective board on the HD. Get another one, they tell me. OK...they won't do it. None in the store. I order one on-line from FS...shipped from
Toronto. $255. Came today. I take it there after work. Get a call....same model, different HD inside...it's useless. Back to the store. They refund the $255 (not without a struggle). I buy a 320 GB model for almost the same....has the same board according
to the tech. He opens the new one....nope, another HD model. Uggh. Finally he just gives me the 320 board he had borrowed from elsewhere, and I take back the 320. Bottom line, the unit comes on, but acts identically to my son's dead HD. Powers up
and whirrs for a few seconds and then stops. Man oh man, I am pissed off about all of this. I can't wait for the day that there'll only be terrabyte flash drives out there and we totally do away with rotating hard drives. He gave me the number of a
forensic data recovery service. Someone had scratched on the photocopy, $390 per hour or something like that. This is really so very x$%&@*****!!!! Now what the heck am I supposed to do. I did nothing to this HD to cause it to do this. It was sitting
quietly on my desk and when I came home one day....no light. Wonder if I should do the deep freeze again. Sure did absolutely nothing for Alex's HD, and the tech says not to....condensation issues, etc. Now what on earth should I do? Suggestions
please!!!!............Walt.
PS: FS = Future Shop, a Canadian chain electronics store.
