Yes.  There is an article posted on the am-dx.com web site outlining the
rationale behind that.  I have some Geoclock snaps that show the greyline
across the US at that time of day.  The Northeast is the worst place for
this, as the signal path skirts the southern boundary of the Auroral zone.

Take a look at the article.  It explains it far better than I could in a
single message.
