[IRCA] Deed Restrictions and DXing

Les,

Our house is on the typical 100'x50' lot. I drove four 8' ground rods into the ground with 4' left exposed. A 5' piece of pvc pipe is placed onto the exposed grounding rod. The masts are placed inside of the pvc pipe and can be removed easily. By using the grounding rods it is easy to ground either end of the EWE antenna. This way I can aim the EWE to the NW, SW, NE and SE. The EWE is 20'x35'x20" and can be raised and lowered in about 2 minutes. One mast is a window washer's pole that collapses into three sections. The other mast is an old Antron 99 CB antenna. The bottom of the mast rests on the grounding rod giving it an extra 4' in height. It does not look good, but works better than any other antenna I've used. My wife says it looks better when the masts are on the ground.

My backyard runs along a street and one night I ran a 500' wire (bog) along the small strip between the fence and sidewalk. Only strung it out once for a few hours around 2 AM and the results were not that great. The direction was East-West. January 31 I plan on retiring and will have time to spend building antennas for MW dxing
