Re: [IRCA] TPs in the East

Nice going, Barry. A shame that none produced audio. I have never had audio
from any DU's except X-banders (when few US stations were on in X-band) even
here on the west BOGs. Carriers have happened over the years, but not audio
except from Island stations on 1098 and 738. Both these commonly have
carriers and I've even noted 1098's (Marshall Is, typically OC after 1100)
het on a barefoot portable.

>From RI in the late 70's very early 80's I never had a trace even from 738
with 1300 ft of Bev thru the trees aimed right at it and from a QTH that
could have had a bit of help from Long Island Sound in that direction. Also
no trace of anything TP/DU on 1000-1200 footers aimed west.

Frpm Ogunquit ME in around 1984 I recall a morning (TA's were gone about 90
min earlier) when I had several carriers with 1035 being just shy of audio
level (IMHO) off the back of my TA Bevs. Also, I had 1700 feet up for about
a month in Dec (not my land other other side of small river and the owner
took the wire, I presume, even though no homes nearby and it typically was
about 10-15 F for high temps.)aimed right at Japan and only a very weak 747
carrier one morning.

Looks like I need to make sure I get up a bit early here in IL and leave the
DX car out in the field and check for TP's since this is the time of the
year when their peaks aren't much before my normal waking time.

Re:1566 here in IL I have had carriers looping both DU and towards Korea
over the years but not close to audio levels. I think it would pay to run a
BOG at 330 degrees here, but the best spot away from noisy powerlines to my
east is behind my new house and said wire would run across some of my pool
so it isn't practical right now !
