Smart move. Whenever some one calls up here requesting that I sell their R-388, my first question: Why? Why part with an asset having no discernible limit to service life? Why get rid of a receiver which has good audio, variable notch, rock stability, no synth hash?
My suggestion, keep it, or sell to someone who'll value it and give it a good home. Forever.
As to sensitivity - and ever so slightly more revealing Narrow Dynamic Range - if 388s and 390s here can't pull .3 uv, AM mode, wide filter on BCB, down to repair bench they go.
As with all, new and old have many fine points and complement one another.
Disappointment with Collins beauties inevitably becomes delight subsequent to alignment.
