Willis, You gotta keep reflecting on the good old days so me and Kaskey can overtake you on the contest! You have an advantage being able to get stations from all directions, while we have nothing available to the west. What contest? If your talking about Alphabet Soup, I have already sent Nancy my #260 reception, and that was last month. Not sure why it's hasn't been reported. You have Hawaii and Alaska. But, you are right, I do have an advantage over you west coast boys. Lokk at a map, you see I am in the middle of RF heaven, about equal distanst from the great lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, and about equal distace from the Mississippi river to the Atlantic ocean. In fact the major postion of U.S. radio stations are in this part of the country. I'm surprised to hear that Es got as high as
channel 13. It seems like little of what gets to channel 2 or 3 ever makes
it to FM, and even channel 7 is above FM. As I said on Patrick's earlier
email.....drool!
E's can get into the UHF
bands, HOWEVER, it's very, very rear. Channel 19 in Tulsa, OK has been
received in South Africa, by EME. About 2 years ago, some of the boys in WTFDA
that live in New York was getting channel 7 from Mississippi state, by E's. The
signal was going right over me, I didn't see a thing that
day.
In the last 20 years, I
haven't seen any thing good on TV worth braging about. That includs the
programing. And from this QTH I hardly ever see any good TVDX. I don't
count Texas on channel 2 as DX. (KMID-2 Midland is really a pest) Of course, I
don't have the same equipment I use to have back in the good ole days. The mast
I used back in 1957, was made of oil well cassing, welded together. The old TV
antennas back in them thar days were, I believe, better build. They were
rugged.
All season long I have had a
lot hets on AM radio, but little audio. I need a better receiver. If I could get
rid of my AIDS, (I was born with AIDS) I would move back to Texas, and my DX
would get better.
I remember back in the 50's,
when Bob Copper was writting a coulme in Radio-Electronics magazine the was a
lot reports for E's and trops up and down the west coast. Times do change. Bob
reported receiving Brazilan TV from his home in Fresno, CA. The secret to
TVDX, is to leave it on and watch 24/7.
