Doug,

I ran mine off a power pack off and on for a couple of years until the
power pack quit holding a charge. But here I did not notice any
difference, but my noise level is low. I think any noise I get comes
from my antennas for the most part. But I know Richard Wood in Hawaii
ran his receivers off batteries, as his powerlines were terribly noisy
and it helped a lot.
