[IRCA] Wobbler Distance Contest Winner

I have to revise my earlier, carefully considered guess as to the distance winner in the "Who Heard the Havana Wobbler" contest.

The more carefully arrived at results are according to my calculations and thanks to the following web sites for great circle distances (1) and city coordinates (2 & 3):

(1) http://www.wcrl.ars.usda.gov/cec/java/lat-long.htm
(2) http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html
(3) http://gnswww.nga.mil/geonames/GNS/index.jsp

A bit surprisingly at first -- but a look at a map exposed my lack of geography skills -- the winner appears to be...

TAH DAH

Patrick Martin in Ocean Side, Oregon (Site of the 2006 IRCA Convention) - 2794 miles.

I used the Havana coordinates of: 23° 08' N 082° 22' W

(Please note: I didn't have precise city info on a couple other Oregon contestants, and I may have overlooked other worthy candidates in the rush of reports that flooded the IRCA list, so if my results disagree with yours, please let me know.)

Congratulations to Patrick, the new Wobbler distance record holder.  No doubt a minor accomplishment, all things considered.

Curt
