An interesting take on conditions of reception Colin. I really get the impression that your receiving set up is considerably better than mine for Asistics, as many things that you mention that seem fairly common for you are either completely missing here or quite rare.
Some thoughts on the following (and working on the assumption that you are describing a season's worth of reception in the cases that I highlight rather than what has been happening in the last few weeks or on September 11 particularly): 



At 17:15 11-09-16, you wrote:




621 DPRK Pyongyang - this brute located in the "somewhat unstable" nation
of North Korea is always hammering at 620 and occasionally reveals typical
Korean ranting in a style only heard within the confines of this basket
state. 1250 - 1310 UTC


very rarely noted here




657 DPRK - At an alleged 1500KW (I imagine less than half of that...) this
2nd day in a row appearance with its stock-in-trade sabre rattling
harangues - occasionally 12:50 through 13:10


not often heard here in 650/660 splatter




675 Hanoi, Vietnam - frequently between 12:50 and 13:10 at numerous passes
- often at good levels but suffering from lower than average modulation.
Likely the number one picture for those hunting for Vietnam.
this seems considerably rarer here than in your reports. The mark of a deeper opening here, after coastal Chinese start to appear. Seems also to be an early season visitor rather than later in winter when the Chinese may still be around? 


819 DPRK - little audio but worrying 820 constantly with a solid growl.
Gets louder as the season progresses.
again, this is a rare visitor here, almost never "louder" here by any stretch of the imagination 



855 DPRK - usually home to a growling and often distorted government
station - but today just growls and burbles.


rare also here



864 NHK/KBS On good mornings this is a great place to park for lower
powered NHK stations or KBS - this morning was
more on he NHK side of the house with a JJ YL chatting at 13:26 UTC --
pretty much the peak moment for LSR enhancement.
KBS very occasionally heard here. There are a number of low power Japanese commercial stations here (no NHK), and I think I may have heard HBC once or twice //1287, but not a frequent channel for audio of any kind at home, though tempting carriers appear 


891 Thailand (t) Likely the SEA Lang at 1309 - in Hawaii this is, by and
far beyond, one of the loudest signals on the dial - not so much
here slightly inland.


have never heard this one.  JOHK is in when conditions are fair to good.


963 Khz - if you hope to hear Russian on medium wave these days, this will
be one of the first -
and ironically, it is from China.
This seems rarer than 1323 for me, though I admit it is the only one of the pair heard this season so far. 




1017 Khz JOLB Fukuoka, Japan - what I consider one of the more dominant and
easily received Tier-2
NHK2 stations. At a decent level around 1323 UTC
-rarely heard here in recent years. CRI in Korean seems more likely, so not complaining too much 




1053 Khz S. Korea Jammer - built for one purpose - to play something that
"sounds" like "Ditty ditty ditty ditty..." over and over again
with no variation - and much to my surprise, it sometimes fades revealing
either Japan underneath or the DPRK station its
trying to flatten. In this morning for the entire shift - but with JJ
coming to the surface every 5 - 10 minutes or so.
neither Japan or the North Korean show any evidence here on mornings when you report them 



1143 Khz China (t) with Chinese opera - as opposed to more the poppy stuff
that Taiwan Fisheries plays - this is a classic
battle royale channel. Either one can appear.
not here. Taiwan Fisheries has been the only visitor during good conditions, and considerably more likely than its parallel on 738 



1287 Khz JOHR Hokkaido HBC - arguably the best sounding Tier 1 commercial
stations in Japan - often at absurdly good levels on the W/NW Flag
definitely in the category of "always there when the band is open..." and
often among the last to leave when sunrise sets in.
this is the most likely upper band Japanese to be sure, though rarely "always there". Interestingly, 1242, though not often heard with audio, seems to be the one to watch along with 954 for sunrise appearances. My perception is that they are more likely than 1287 to hang around after sunrise at this location.
Also CNR1 on 945 can hang around for quite awhile, and in recent years has been a fairly frequent visitor here when conditions deepen.
