[IRCA] Re: the Future of DX Tests (Long)

Eric,

I was listening to KFBK/Sacramento a few weeks back.  They were doing a show with their traffic reporter on his last day of employment.  He did his reports from the air, and was being replaced by a bunch of terrestrial webcams.  It was my take that CC (the owner of KFBK) is cutting costs all over the place, probably because they're trying to buy every damn transmitter in North America.  To QSL or not to QSL may be a decision at the station level (or individual staff members for that matter), but productivity and budgeting are being scrutinized from above.  We will likely see more and more of that in the future.

I stopped sending reception reports back around 1990.  Envelopes, letters, stamps and time were basically being wasted if nothing came back....the same way I feel about sending resumes now unfortunately.  The ONLY exception I made was a report of a 2-hour logging of KCBF in Fairbanks AK.  I couldn't let that one go by.  They could.....

Pat,

You may have had a good experience with QSLing CC stations, but I have not. I have not gotten a QSL out of either WLW or KOA since Jacor took over the stations. With very few exceptions, CC has been a notorious non-verifier for me. The best corporate verifiers seem to be Infinity Broadcasting and Disney/ABC for me. My best verifiers have been the smaller companies, like Crawford Broadcasting (including local KJSL 630), Cox (including WSB 750; they even verified WCNN 680 when Cox LMAed the station) and Zimmer. The best verifiers tend to be the Christian stations (getting prompt veries from several of these ministry outreaches, including the one I worked for, WFTD 1080), as well as public radio (I've received quick QSLs from KSMU 91.1, WOI 640/90.1 and WSUI 910, for instance). I've also had bad experiences seeking employment with CC...but that's a whole different matter.
