Glenn Hauser logs April 23-24, 2023
Tuesday, April 25 2023

Logs
** CUBA. 6100, April 24 at 0630, RHC English still on proper
frequency, during extreme propagation disturbance, but unusual flutter
on S9/+10 signal, and also some `rumble`, unclear source of that.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, April 24 at 2045, distorted Portuguese on one of few
signals on band, S9+5/15 with squeal, and spurs about +/- 6.67 kHz.
WRTH update does not show any PP at 2030, and 15140 supposed to stop
at 2030 after French. Likewise per EiBi, while Aoki still shows winter
timings of 2000-2100 English, 2100-2130 French! Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, April 24 at 2045, REE is SSOB direct, but much weaker
than normal, not recovered from major geomag storm. Recheck 2227
toward end of token English, JBA carrier for us; but 15520 off the
back for ME is sufficient as she is talking about Don Quijote (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2187 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
April 23 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+10/20 into
nearby Noale SDR but with heavy subaudible heterodyne (SAH) fading
from an understation, less so by 2025.

Also confirmed UT Monday April 24 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into
Louisiana SDR, but with heavy storm noise level (HSNL) from nearby
Gulf of Mexico; also blasted first 14 seconds by noise transmitter.

Also confirmed UT Monday April 24 from 0302 on WBCQ Area 51, during
severe propagation disturbance, 6160 minus 66 Hz = 6159.934 into
Maryland SDR also with HSNL from Gulf of Mexico? or smaller storms out
toward Bermuda. Slightly better than into NH SDR. Direct? JBA carrier
vs HSNL. Started slightly late after some SFX, also heard on webcast.
Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated; thanks this week to Dan Sheedy, Encinitas CA, for a
generous contribution to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702;
``Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday and throw a donation into
the `WOR vat of consistently useful and accurate DX info`. Thanks for
all your efforts to keep DX info non-trivial. Cheers, Dan``

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130 -16 Hz = 5129.984, UT Monday April 24 at 0200, WBCQ R.
Angela is back! on the air, as Bill Tilford notified us a few hours
earlier that Timtron had finally fixed the transmitter. Unfortunately
this coincides with extreme propagation disturbance, and high storm
noise levels. It`s `Concert Hall` with Sir Scratchy introducing UB,
but far too poor for any enjoyable listening, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR.
At 0219 I check it direct: JBA vs HSNL. At 0231 to Maryland has
declined to JBA at 5129.979; and Maine SDR is JBA at 5129.978. Wonder
if it`s back to previous power level. In summer anyway this should be
on a higher band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Obs direct during severe geomagnetic storm, April
24 at 0627+. 6160 WBCQ: inaudible. 6070 CFRX: JBA carrier. 6115 & 6055
Japan: inaudible. Attenuated but stronger signals remaining exhibit
Doppler flutter, with BFO, not up and down but sideways: 5935 WWCR,
5850 WRMI, 4840 WWCR. At 0632, also 7505 WRNO, 7570 & 7780 WRMI.
Flutter also hits southerly sigs such as CUBA, VANUATU, q.v.

Checking bands at 1530 April 24: most signals still very attenuated or
absent. The only one more or less normally strong is 12160 WWCR.

Space weather for the past 24 hours has been severe.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G4 level occurred.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are expected.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, April 24 at 0632, RV is S4/S6 with talk, about
normal poor level, but with Doppler flutter caused by severe geomag
storm. This path is totally trans-equatorial entering the US thru Yuma
AZ; same direxion as Queensland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
