Re: [Swprograms] BBCWS and Olympics streaming -- only slightly affected in 2008

A step in the right direction to be sure; but isn't this all a bit curious? The BBC and other broadcasters seem to have an interest in getting all of us to migrate over to the internet in preference to continuing to access broadcasts terrestrially, yet the "rights" issues limit what can be heard (and seen) on the internet. Can this be solely a costs issue? Or does it run deeper than that in that the rights holders will not distribute those internet rights to anyone but themselves? (And I'm not just referring to the Olympics, which has always been tight-fisted in this regard even before the advent of internet distribution. MLB, AFL--Aussie rules football, the NFL, the NHL, etc. all jealously reserve internet rights unto themselves.)

The question is largely rhetorical, but I would be interested in hearing perspectives.
