"Fairness" is code for giving uncommented equal weight in reportage to
differing points of view without regard to the objective validity of
such view(s).
Reporting on differing points of view is important, but reporting
accurately on such views and whether or not they are supported by
verifiable evidence would be a higher and more worthy ideal. More
often than not, those insisting on "fairness" would rather that the
verifiable evidence one way or another be dispensed with in such
reporting. This leaves us with the "he said, she said" form we are
cursed with in the American electronic media today.
Let's hope for better in Australia.
