In the far recesses of my brain <g>, I seem to recall that BBC World 
has indeed been in negotiations with U.S. cable providers for some 
time.  Why exactly these discussions have not borne fruit is not 
readily apparent to me.  I do know that a lot of BBC programs have 
been sold piecemeal to various U.S. outlets--among them A&E, BBC 
America (part owned by A&E), Animal Planet, PBS, and several other 
narrowly focused specialty networks.  Perhaps navigating around those 
rights makes it difficult to bring BBC World to stateside viewers?
