Re: [Swprograms] Re: Bye-bye, 1440 Broadway

Yes, it was Sportsradio 1050 for a couple of years. WHN was purchased by
Emmis Broadcasting, made ainto the first sports station and rechristened
1050 WFAN until WNBC 66 came up for sale and purchased by Emmis who switched
formats. They then traded 1050 with WEVD-FM, for their FM station and WEVD
which by that time was a talk station simply moved to 1050 AM where it
remeined in the ratings cellar (and still does as ESPN Radio which is leased
to ABC).

WFAN moved to 66 AM, which is how Emmis acquired Imus who came along in the
WNBC fire sale (hindsight: NBC regrets having sold off its station and
network radio properties instead of taking advantage of FCC loopholes like
ABC and CBS did when those companies changed hands and didn't sell off their
radio divisions according to the FCC rules back then). Emmis later sold a
number of their stations including WFAN to Infinity.
