Started 4 minutes late, or at 2:04 into the 3:07 hour file of the 8-23
Washington Journal, which came right up from a link on the home page
http://www.cspan.org  You did not miss much. As an example of where he is
coming from, Tomlinson started right off by saying it`s hard to believe the US
had not been broadcasting directly to the Arab people until Al-Hurra TV began
early this year. WHAT ABOUT THE VOICE OF AMERICA which broadcast in Arabic for
sesquidecades? And which he later admitted he had directed during Reagan`s
first term. One question, from the moderator, was how do Cubans go about
picking up Martí? He said some of them know how to cope with jamming, but
nothing about the just-started airborne relays. Makes you wonder if he is even
aware of them? Must not read DXLD. He was not confronted with any challenging
questions, surprise. Many of the calls were off-topic, listeners sniping at
each other, and those that were on-topic demonstrated an appalling ignorance on
the part of the public about international broadcasting (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
