Re: [Swlfest] Kulpsville repeaters

More on the amateur radio repeaters in and around Kulpsville. While
at the Best Western, on the 4th floor, I tooled around the area
repeaters covered in the sources mentioned in the last note. Using a
Yaesu tri-band VX-6 and a Comet HT-224 antenna (better than Yaesu's
supplied antenna), the only activity was heard on W3BN 146.91 Reading
in the early evening hours. It was out of reach even with 5 watts. I
couldn't key up anything on 144, 222 or 440.

The mobile coverage with a Yaesu VR-8800 dual band (144 + 440) was
much better. Three of the BEARS systems (w3bxw.com) could be heard,
two could be worked, and the main hub repeater in Bensalem PA on
444.200 (131.8) had the best signal. The map at http://w3bxw.com/
repeatermap.html gives the details of what is where no matter what
direction travelers come from.

PS: I updated swlfest.com with the dates for 2007 and 2008, and the
countdown clock is running. Mark your calendars. If you didn't come
to the 19th 'fest, you missed a good time. Congrats to Rich and John.
