As the case wherever I travel in NJ, NY and New England the FM repeater activity peaks in the drivetime hours to/from work. The wide-area coverage repeaters in active use around here during the day are W3BXW monster linked system and the single-site W2QW in Martinsville, NJ (which I can use even in Camden County). Other large linked systems are W2NJR and N3KZ; the latter can be accessed from the eastern end of WV.
Too late for this persons asking the question, but repeaters have been listed on http://swlfest.com since the Web site was created. Skip N2EI has a large inventory on the new-this-year http://scannerscum.com -- the big link system covering NYC, NJ, ePA, DE and eMD is http://w3bxw.com -- and the local coordinating council http://arcc-inc.org has its newly revised inventory on the air. I have a PDF list sorted 3 ways at http://w2xq.com -- and all of this info is on the links page on the 'fest site. I can access W3BXW once I am within 20 miles or so of the NJ state line while coming down the NY Thruway from VT.

Hi, everyone. Pretty close now!
Alan Roberts and I will be hitting the road tomorrow
morning at around 7 AM. Looks like we'll be running
into some weather along the way. A disturbance to the
west of us is swinging down south of Montreal,
probably through the Adirondacks tomorrow, so we'll
need to be ready for anything. We'll be checking out
last minute weather reports tonight and first thing in
the morning.
Barring any major delays, we should arrive by mid to
late afternoon. However we will both be doing some
birdwatching along the way, so any prime species along
the way could certainly distract us for a time.
One way or another though, tomorrow it's "Kulpsville
or Bust"!
Safe travelling, everyone.
I'll have two meter amateur capabilities in the van.
Has anyone ever thought of setting up a talk-in
station at the hotel? Anyone know what the frequency
would be for the repeater closest to the hotel?
