As others have said, TP conditions were quite good this morning. My
unattended recording 1425-1601 UTC showed fairly consistent reception up
until about 1535-40 UT at which point most signals dropped out rather
quickly. The 972 Korean, however, was still doing well when the
recording ended at 1601.
The low band Japanese stations were the winners today, with good signals
from the regulars and bits of audio from a couple of seldom heard
stations. With one or two exceptions, the upper part of the dial was
sub par - HLAZ-1566 was anemic at best and VOA-1575 was just a carrier.
GOOD - mostly understandable by a native speaker
594 JOAK, 1500, 3+1 pips then man with news
693 JOAB, good at times, esp 1447 male talk, 1540 "JOAB NHK Tokyo
Dai-ini Hoso Des" then NA & chimes
774 JOUB, good 1500 with pips, then woman mentioned NHK Hoso
something & intro'd next program with weird calliope-like music, weaker
1540 with NA sign-off
828 JOBB, woman in Japanese 1459, music, then pips and start of next
program //774
972 HLCA, 1459 vocal music, anmt by woman, pips, then KBS mention & news
FAIR - words and phrases understandable by a native speaker
702 NHK2, music //693, faint ID, then NA 1540
747 JOIB, JJ talk //747 1523
1332 JOSF, Japanese male faded up briefly 1530
1503 JOUK, pips & news 1500, theme from the movie "Flashdance" 1531 //594
1566 HLAZ, woman in Chinese 1532 briefly rising up, mostly poor
signal otherwise
POOR - recognizable program content
567 JOIK, 1455 traces of talk //594
612 JOLK, 1500, partial very weak time pips //594
666 JOBK, 1445 serious-sounding JJ male //594
729 JOCK, 1500 faint pips, 1509 woman //594
837 JOQK, 1459 faint music, 1500 pips
873 JOGB, 1432, man & woman w/English lesson //774, good signal but
horrific KIXI splash
981 bits of talk 1523, probably CNR
1134 bits of what sounded like woman talking, possibly time pips 1500
amid much splatter
1377 Inst music 1531, probably CNR
1386 pips & music 1500 //774 mostly buried in KRKO splash
1422 Japanese woman 1532
