[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on Feb 5



Today's DX was reasonably OK. The upper half of the dial was down noticeably from yesterday, but the lower part of the band improved.

There was a modest enhancement on the upper part of the dial just before sunrise. Stations below 1000 peaked much earlier, mostly at about 1300 again today with all of them long gone by 1500. Many carriers were noted between 700 and 1000 at about 1300-1330 UTC +/-.


Good - A native speaker would have understood most of it, at least for brief periods 774 JOUB, briefly good with weather report 1304, otherwise fair-nil 1248-1401 with the usual assortment of language lessons, talk, etc

1566    HLAZ, quite good in Chinese  1457-1530


Fair - A native speaker would have recognized some words and phrases
850    KICY (presumed), Russian male mixing with KHHO 1242
693 JOAB, weather 1319, local ID 1320, then began English lesson "let's start day 3 for the month of February", amid heavy CBU splatter
747    JOIB, man & woman with Chinese lesson 1352
1575 VOA, 1401 theme music, then what sounded like news in SE Asian language (listed as Khmer)


Poor - Miscellaneous mumblings and sounds
594    JOAK Pips and faint talk 1200
828    faint talk 1309
981    CNR1 faint Chinese talk in CKNW splatter 1229
1134    faint talk in 1130/1140 splatter 1502
1170 final tone from KBS time pips 1500 during very brief pause in KPUG audio
1314    music 1509
1593 CNR?, 1517 a few syllables now and then when KLFE stopped to catch its breath
1602    faint bits of talk 1518, probably NHK
