[IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 7-23

Hello All,

Thanks to Nigel and Walt for their DU-DXing reports this morning-- and I'd certainly agree with them that this was an NZ-slanted morning (as almost every morning seems to be, on this propagation-boosting Cliff).
The Kiwi regulars were pounding in as usual on the foggy cliff, with 657-Southern Star and 765-R. Kahungunu reaching their best levels yet during the DXpedition. The apparent Chinese-language station on 936 was in and out, and 585 had some weak audio again (probably the 2 kW Maori station this time, but I was unable to confirm the // with 603 or 765). Efforts were made to go after more exotic fare on 558 (Fiji), 666 (New Caledonia) and 1017 (Tonga), but once again the peak sunrise enhancement period was relatively short, wrapping up around 1315. In addition, DU propagation didn't seem to favor (favour) much besides New Zealand this morning, except for the usual Aussie big guns and an awesome signal from 738-Radio Polynesie (Tahiti) around the 1300 TOH. This Rockwork 4 cliff faces directly in the Kiwi direction, and there has yet to be a single summer listening session where New Zealand stations didn't pound in (8 out of 8 days so far, including last August). When the !
NZ propagation really kicks in, this Cliff almost seems like part of Kiwi turf.
It was great to receive a message from Guy Atkins that the Yachats (OR) DXpedition group has set up their antennas on Cape Perpetua, both at the Highway 101 turn off and at the top (805') level. The greatest limitation here has been the inability to track down all of the vibrant DU's across the entire band (during live DXing) before sunrise enhancement folds each morning. Hopefully the multi-antenna Yachats group can use their Perseus-SDR spectrum-recording capabilities to overcome this delightful "problem."

531 PI Auckland, NZ Very strong with Samoan talk at 1245, leaving no chance for the UnID Aussie "talker" to sneak though
558 UnID This frequency had audio in and out this morning, but never vibrant enough to overcome 560 domestic splatter
567 RNZ Wellington, NZ Super signal at 1252 with DU English male speech, // 639, 675 and 756
576 2RN Sydney, Australia Good strength pop music at 1313, // 792
585 UnID Fair strength music at 1239 sounded Maori (like Radio Ngati Porou), but not strong enough to confirm // with 603
594 3WV Horsham, Australia Decent strength at times with ABC interview programs, but always mixing with NZ Rhema
594 NZ. Rhema Good strength Christian contemporary music at 1250, usually shoving 3WV down in the noise
603 Radio Waatea Excellent level Maori choral music at 1227, // equally vibrant 765-Kahungunu
639 RNZ Alexandra, NZ Good strength DU English female speech at 1254 through KFI splatter
657 Southern Star Wellington, NZ Best signals so far this trip with vibrant Christian music at 1242

               this cliff trip http://www.mediafire.com/listen/j8xbgpclgu8yh7z/765-R.Kahungunu-1226z072313PL380.MP3

792 4RN ABC ethnic music program at good strength at 1313 but in a snarl with Kiwi Radio Sport this session
792 Radio Sport Hamilton, NZ Kiwi-slanted propagation boosted this 5 kW sports station past 4RN though much of session
828 Radio Trackside Palmerston No., NZ This 2 kW Kiwi overachiever was in a horse race with Aussie 3GI through session
828 3GI Sale, Australia Decent signal with Aussie LR network interview // 774 at 1305, but competing with Kiwi R. Trackside
891 5AN Adelaide, Australia One of the best Aussie signals with very good DU English interview at 1306, // 774
936 New Supremo (presumed) Apparent weak Chinese from this 1 kW station again at 1247, but it was playing hard to get all
              morning

(Many more vibrant DU's were on the higher frequencies, but there was no time to check them all out before sunrise enhancement collapsed around 1320)
