Hi Bruce and Guy,
Thanks for your additional information on this morning's 1575 kHz
techno music mystery.
In March of 2010 there was music of this exact same type received here
on 1575 kHz mixing with VOA Thailand, and I had no idea what it was.
After listening to the related MP3 last year Walt said that it was
almost certainly the low-powered AFN network in Japan (very common in
Masset, at good levels), although I never received an ID for it. The
puzzle this morning was that the techno (a.k.a. disco) music was all
alone on the frequency, unlike last year, when it was always mixing
with VOA. Whenever this 1575 kHz (presumed AFN) music would show up
here previously, it was never stronger than VOA, and only rarely at
equal level.

VOA broadcasts in Khmer 1330-1430, which could explain the lack of a
TOH ID. I
briefly listened to today's Podcast for that particular program, as
posted on
the VOA website. It was mainly taking and interviews, with no techno
music. So
if you heard VOA, there's a bit of a mismatch between what went
out over the air
and what's posted on the VOA website. Or as Guy suggested, it might
have been
an AFN Station.

Hi Dennis,
I was also listening to the strange techno music on 1575 kHz at the
1400 TOH, which was fairly strong here at times. This recording was
made just before the TOH, when no ID was heard here, either:
http://www.mediafire.com/?pe52gpspmgx9gie The only logical explanation
would seem to be that VOA in Thailand has somehow changed its format,
since there is no other TP on the frequency that could have been so
strong (with no competition).
