Re: [IRCA] More 1170 kHz TP Follies-- VOA with African Music at 1420UTC?
Gary
That was probably KLOK with Indian programming. I was listening to 1170 on the car rx at 1415 when something popped up w/ south Asian mx. I figured it wasn't Radio Sawa. KLOK's website shows mostly Indian pgms, adding yet more confusion to this freq.

Subject: [IRCA] More 1170 kHz TP Follies-- VOA with African Music at 1420
UTC?
Hello All,
Thanks to Bruce, Nick, John, Guy and Walt for their inputs on the 1170 kHz
TP's received recently, in the null of KPUG-1170.
This morning's 1170 kHz mix around 1425 featured a much reduced KPUG, a
loud African music station with a foreign language sounding like African
(possibly VOA in the Philippines- also heard yesterday but without the
African-sounding foreign language), and a weaker Korean-voiced station (presumably
the KBS station). There was no sign of the Chinese-language station heard
yesterday. It seems odd that VOA would be broadcasting African music from
the Phillipines, but nothing else seems to fit the pattern.
The African music (and a brief section of African-sounding language) was
recorded at 1416 when the signal was booming in at a "9", completely blanking
out KPUG and the presumed KBS station. Can anyone confirm that
VOA-Phillipines-1170 has an African music program around 1420 UTC? If so, there would
probably be three separate TP's that are being received in the null of
KPUG--- VOA-Philippines, the KBS station, and the CNR1 Chinese station heard
yesterday. Any help would be appreciated.
73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA)
