[IRCA] TA report for 10October09 Masset: Humming!!!
I arrived at the cottage yesterday at noon after having to
change planes in changing planes in Vancouver as ours had a defective
light. On top of that, there were very strong headwinds making a 2 hour
flight into one of 3 hours. Still, arrived safe and sound in Masset and
after a quick lunch with the in-laws, I headed out to the cabin for some
serious antenna and receiver work. I brought with me the Perseus SDR as
well as theSDR IQ as back up and my 7030+ which stays here. I laid out my favourite Beverage to the NW
(BOG) at about 800’, and my permanent mini-Beverage of about 450’ due north,
and a large diameter ALA 100 aimed N/NE and S/SW. All these fed via coax to the new shack in
the garage (heated and roomy). It took
me some time to get organized as I couldn’t figure out why the Perseus wasn’t
working as well as it does at home until I understood that it was using an
older Dell Dual Core rather than core 2 Duo processor (or is that vice
versa?). On 1000 kHz it worked just
fine. Nonetheless, I switched over to
using the Perseus with my MSI Wind and turbocharged and that seemed just
fine. That took me until it was quite
dark, although in the meantime, I noticed armchair copy of Croatia on 1134 from
02:00 or earlier. I listened to around
06:00 UTC before calling it a night. The
Perseus was happily recording the full spectrum for over 2 hours! I’m going to have a ball, as there was audio
on virtually the entire band with all sorts of good stuff to be heard. Here’s some of my early result. “6” unless otherwise noted:
