Was up early this AM and made a first run at 1150. The strongest JJs
were in along with Chinese on 918, 963, a HUGE 1017 CNR KK Service
and 1377. I believe I had Taiwan Fisheries on 738 at 1200. Hets over
most of the band.
Started again at 1250 (LSR=1320) and the first 20 minutes was as good
as I've heard Asia here on Orcas so far this season. All of the
normal JJs were in and strong and North Korea was in audio on 819 and
855+. The HBC synchros from Hokkaido ( 1@ 1kW and 1@5 kW) were in at
6+ //1287, I think. 1593, CNR1 had joined the Chinese chorus. 594
Japan was in audio, a rare occurrence here with a Vancouver blowtorch
on 600. For the first time this year, 891 was not DU, but rather
JOHK, NHK1 in Sendai.
At about ten minutes until dawn, the Asians just seemed to shrivel
up... not like turning a switch, but over about 5 minutes. The DUs
then appeared, but very few (no Kiwi's, either) and quite weak,
except above 1500. There, the 1566 and 1575 seemed to rock on, joined
by a very weak DU on 1512. The big surprise just at dawn, was the
X-band Aussies. I had level 6 audio on 1611, 1656 and 1665. The
Middle East Aussie station on 1701.045 was in with a solid level
8! It was the best X band Aussie opening that I've heard this
season. Who knew?
Patrick, you better get Labor Day behind you and dust off that radio
:>) Me, I better get the Wellbrook up and running.
