Probably a consultant, as I am. I work for a number of stations in southern
New England, and have some occasional one-shot jobs for others. To me they
are all clients. I suppose that fits the term "freelance".

His name is not familiar to me, and I've been doing this longer than he has.

I have had conversations with a number of other engineers concerning IBOC.
They run the gamut from rabid fans to equally rabid foes, some of whom are
far stronger opinions about IBOC than is healthy. Most seem opposed. I'm
not sure that iBiquity actually pays anyone outside their immediate sphere
of influence to voice support. At least nobody I know has ever been
approached by them, check in hand.

There is always the implied threat of being fired if any engineer publicly
voices opposition counter to corporate policy. I'm not aware of anyone who
has been specifically fired for that. I'm sure that "You're fired 'cuz you
hate HD Radio" would never be on their pink slip. It would always be for
some other reason.

It does appear that the IBOC "revolution" is over. I'm not aware of any new
installations around here, nor of any being planned. Some wag said that
IBOC had the year 2006 to make it's case. That has come and gone, as has
2007 - essentially - without any sort of momentum being gained. IBOC is
nothing more than a consumer yawnfest. With receiver sales essentially at
zero, and complaints and actions against existing transmitting facilities on
the rise, we can stick a fork in it. Right now all we are seeing is the
corporate ego of iBiquity and friends blustering along trying to save face.

It's dead, Jim.
