Yup. It seems that the only thing that AM radio is today -- is a lot of talk -- talk -- talk and all of the programs are the same. You can offer your "yes" or "no" --but all of you seem to be missing the bottom line. While Patrick might be able to hear a few more stations -- on 1510 -- on the Oregon Coast -- at some point -- the AM broadcast band -- will no longer be "listen-able" at night. A "downgrade" means -- more stations -- less room and more static and noise. And that's what "IS" happening to the AM broadcast Band. At some point in the future --- KGA will be sharing 1510 with stations in every state in the nation. "DXing" will be a dead hobby. What may seem to be great for the owners of KGA -- may not be good for the general public or DXing. And all of the "green" type light bulbs and home light "dimmer swiches" just add more "noise" to the AM band. They emit a AM radio signal. We may save the earth -- but kill off the AM broadcast
band. Why not just let everyone use 50 KW. Add 500 more Low power TIS stations on AM -- so that no one can hear even a local radio station. The city of Long Beach - California only uses it 810 khz AM TIS frequency -- in the summer to broadcast "boat racing" at live boat races. Add a new AM low power service. All anyone will hear is noise. AM is NOT FM. How many radio stations does New York City need ?? Downgrading WOWO on 1190 was wrong and downgrading KGA is WRONG. Heck -- since the old KURB - 1510 is dead -- why mot just MOVE KGA to Seattle. All class 4 stations were only 250 watts. Did it help to increase power to 1 KW or just cause more noise. It's going to kill off DXing.
