Re: [IRCA] A little bit of AM trivia

I could be wrong, but if I remember from my ancient radio books, WLW was NOT 500 KW (by technicality). There was an experimental license issued for the 500 KW transmitter that was at the same facility (I think). The 500 KW and 50 KW transmitters both operated, but not concurrently. I believe they both aired the WLW programming though. The 500 KW experimental license went the way of the two-dollar bill. If I remember, there were a lot of complaints of livestock turning into deadstock from the high RF levels.

WLW did run 50kw or more, by 1937. BUT, WLW did not start off as 50kw
station.
The question stated "....from the original license from the FCC." WLW
original ticket was issued by FRC, not the FCC.

In fact WLW was the first radio station in the U.S. to run 100,000 (or more)
watts as granted by the FCC. They had reduced their power down to 50kw by
1941.

I have an very old book, Radio Receivers, printed by Radio Digest and @1924.
It shows WLW on a frequency of 710 at 5,000 watts.

WLW I don't believe was the first 50 kw station. But not sure.
