The data on 100kw isn't actually "mine," per se - it comes from the M
Street database. But I can say this about WAAA/WTIX - it's been on and off
sporadically for several years. When I passed through the area most
recently, in March 2003, it was just barely on the air. There was no tower
at its licensed site, and it sounded like it was running maybe 50 watts
into a longwire at some other location. That was under a previous owner
who later declared bankruptcy. GHB bought the license out of bankruptcy,
and I get the impression it's used the station largely as a place to park
call letters (WTIX, late of 690 New Orleans, now WIST) and to simulcast
its other Triad AM, the 790 in Thomasville that itself used to be WIST. I
certainly wouldn't read a lot of meaning into those particular calls,
otherwise.
