Fellas,
The old man's alarm clock got me up and at the dials at 1215, more
than an hour before the beginning dawn enhancement and I'm really
glad that it did. Things were in early and, before dawn, it was
almost all China. After the middle of Dawn enhancement, say about
1350 or so, the Koreans, the Japanese and a few others began to bulk
up nicely. I did check Long Wave during that early period and I
didn't do as well as Steve Ratzlaff, but.... at various times I
caught Excellent levels of 153, 189, 234 and 279. Patrick said once
that he thought maybe the LW Russians varied their transmitter power
some from day to day. I'm wondering if they don't have a slewable
pattern on some transmitters... there is virtually no fading, but
153 was poor when I first checked and HUGE a bit later at recheck,
with no change in the others.... hummmmm. One of the picks of the
morning, though was 164 Mongolia, possibly parallel to 7260, but not
the other SW channels that PAL lists. It started out good and, over
20 minutes, slowly faded down. Was a new country from here on Orcas
and only the second time that I've ever heard them. A tentative
report will go out soon!
As for the Chinese, I likely had a completely new station (for me) on
1278 kHz.... Almost certainly Hebei RGD in Shijiazhuang in definite
standard Chinese at god level. Hebei is the province that surrounds
Beijiang and Shi'''huang is the provincial capitol about 100 km.
south of Beijing. Gosh, I'm pleased with that one.... 1278 is usually
JOKR when it is in. I had CNR-1 on a slew of frequencies, 639, 756,
945, possibly 981, and the strongest, 1377. Other Chinese services
were the RR service on 963 and 1323, the JJ Service on 1044. The
Best reception of the morning, for quality, though was 1575, VOA
Thailand. They were almost studio quality from 1215 tune-in through
to about 1400. W*O*W!!! Patrick, I camped on 981 quite a bit and 891
and didn't hear much of anything in audio. I did hear something on
981, but it may have been yet another CNR-1.
1305 was ALL Korean, loud. 612, 1386 and 1512 all seemed Asian
signals, but I don't have a clue as to what they were.... Oh, and I
had decent audio on Viet Nam 675, despite what I think is IBOC QRM on
its low side.
Walter, 1206 slightly low is a real audio regular for me, it is the
Chinese service in KK from Yanji, just across the border in southern Mancuria.
Man, what a morning.... I'm definitely heading to Grayland in a few
days. Can't stay all next week, but I'm gonna catch a few days.
I think that there may be two components to the difference between my
morning and summa the Victoria chaps.... I think that my location
hears China particularly well AND the steadiest stuff was largely in
my first hour when mosta those woosies were still snuggled in their
warm beds. Sometimes there is a small advantage to being old :>)
