[IRCA] KNOM and KICY

Hi All,
Sorry for the slow response... and sorry for congesting the morning e-mail for all of you yesterday! ... Sometimes I get a little excited.
I read all of your comments. Very interesting.   KNOM is still Catholic based and a funny thing is that the general manager was raised in the town I lived in. Hmmm.

I did hear a rather large variety of music on 780 but couldn't nail it down as KNOM and KAZM  would be on the same heading for me. As well (figure of speech) as it came in (both of them actually), I wouldn't doubt if the music was from was either of them.  The KNOM reception was about as poor as it gets and for me squeeze as much out of it as I did was an accomplishment as far as I'm concerned. If I didn't DX or listen to this stuff regularly, it would have been just trash just as 98% of the rest of the recording was. Sending a recording would have been a painful experience for them, I am sure.

KICY. I listened to the frequency for quite a while before anything came up and I paralleled it to the websites audio stream, although it seemed to run just a bit more than one minute and 15 seconds behind. Their audio stream has it's connection problems. Plus it goes off during news breaks and sometimes well after the news, or should I say, after the ToH slot should be well over.  I thought the KNOM programming was interesting and it was thoroughly sufficient. A mention of the "Ptarmigan Telegraph" is something uniquely theirs. The Russian programming was interesting also- with two announcers and music.

Don, I appreciate your motivation on getting more Alaskans. I'm sure I run my DXing program (double hi) the opposite of most DX'ers out there, in the fact that I don't really have a long term agenda. I can say that with the exception of a few stations... KWVR Enterprise on 1340 is one exception, hi. Since I've been on this list, logs and comments have pointed me in different directions that I might not have gone otherwise and it's been a big help. 1314 Norway is a good example, as I figured about 25 years ago that I would never stand a chance catching any TA. If it's booming in for someone on the west coast, then maybe I stand a chance.
