As I recall, it was a big deal around 1974 when WNCN in New York City 
changed to AOR from classical, and listener pressure forced a return to 
classical.
Also there was little initial response when Y102 (KYYT) Goldendale, 
Washington flipped to country in 1993, so that satellite format lasted a 
few days before it flipped back to Adult Contemporary.
Of course, it's comparatively easy to make those changes using a 
satelllite provider offering multiple formats.
A more permanent flip to country took place a couple of years later, and 
it's been successful. The difference? Marketplace changes, and more 
patience.
