Re: [IRCA] 1640- UNID Spanish heard

Thanks, John.  Tried 1640 again on Thursday, Dec 29 (EST) but no joy.  Heard the Radio Disney outlet and a football game (Oregon vs Oklahoma) but no Spanish, even with the loop.  :(

Hi John-

I was just down in the British Virgin Islands and the 3 easily heard daytime signals on the x-band were WDHP (USVI) on 1620, WGIT (Puerto Rico) on 1660 and R.Juventus Don Bosco (DR) on 1640 (in Spanish). I can't recall the programming as I was focusing on the WGIT station and trying to figure out how to hear it in NY with the NJ station in between. I do recall the ID, though. I would think that would be a good bet for your reception.

I was hearing low-key talk, either news or preaching.  I only had the signal for about 5-10 minutes before it faded out.  It was never strong but quite distinct under the Radio Disney outlet, which eventually reasserted itself on 1640.

I'm pretty sure it was not the Utah station- just a hunch.

Here's Bill Harms' logging from NRC's IDXD:

1640 72-20 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC R.Juventus Don Bosco, Santo Domingo
FEB 4 0304 - Sounding of trumpets, ID by male announcer as "Radio
Juventus Don Bosco... 1640 kHz... una voz pa! ra la civilización del
amor." This was followed by music. Also heard preaching at other
times. The signal was fair to good mixing with WTNI and with WKSH
nulled. Thanks to Alf Aardal in Norway who first heard this one and
informed the gang in #mwdx. [Harms-MD]
